Lukas Verstraete (°1992, Belgium) fills his graphic world with sweating losers, grotesque women, doubtful knights and miserable maniacs. Drawing on a generous dose of naivety, smuttiness, stereotypes and little tenderness, he tries to establish the meaning of life.
His illustrations have been published in HUMO, The New York Times, De Standaard, De Morgen, Bahamontes, Aline, Le Monde Diplomatique,... and for anyone who wishes.
In 2013, he was awarded the prize for Best Script at the Fumetto comics festival.
In 2014 Verstraete obtained his Master of Free Arts at LUCA School of Arts in Ghent.
In 2017, he published his first graphic novel 'Een Boek Waarmee Men Vrienden Maakt’ (Bries). that was later translated in French (Editions Meme Pas Mal) and in English (Fantagraphics).
Since 2018, he has been teaching at LUCA School of Arts Brussels at the Graphic Storytelling Studio and in Ghent at the Illustration Studio.
